Chelmsford Business Association - Newsletter

Spring 2004

Happy Spring
Jeff Hardy, CBA President

What an election season it has been. Just a few thoughts as we wait for spring to arrive and our beloved Red Sox start another exciting ride.

What an election season it has been and the CBA once again did our part to inform and hopefully educate our voting public. I want to first thank the Candidates Night Committee for the hard work in preparation for the evening and I would also like to thank all of our candidates who participated as well as those who were running for all the elected positions in town. These folk give a lot of personal time to this community and I would like to congratulate them for an exciting campaign season. As most all of you know by now, the town passed the recent version of the school improvement project. It is my hope the business community will do its part to make this decision a positive improvement for our town and benefit for the entire community.

For those who were unable to attend, our town manager, Bernard Lynch, gave an excellent presentation to our membership about the past present and future of Chelmsford. Following the presentation, Mr. Lynch had a question and answer session with those who attended. On behalf of the Association, I would like to thank the town manager and we look forward to hearing from him again down the road.

And speaking of the town manager, in this edition of the newsletter, please take time to read the open letter to our membership. The town is making an effort to clean up for spring and is going to actively enforce some of its regulations regarding the appearances of our businesses.

In other news, one of our new members, Bradco Supply Company, had an open house at their new facility on Industrial Avenue. They were kind enough to invite the CBA board to participate in the ribbon cutting starting the event. On behalf of the board and the association I would like to welcome them to Chelmsford and wish them the best of luck.

Finally, the association is working hard in preparation for our summer activities, please look to the web-site for updates events like the annual Spinners game and 4th of July activities. As many of you know one of our members, John Chemely has taken on the task of organizing this year's parade, but he needs help from the community. Any assistance from our membership will be appreciated and recognized.

Finally, thank you all for your continued support and remember "buy Chelmsford" whenever possible.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A. Hardy

Chelmsford Business Association
Mr. Jeffrey Hardy, President
10 Summer Street
Chelmsford, MA 01824

Dear Mr. Hardy,

The Town has embarked upon an initiative to improve our community appearance at public and private properties. To achieve this goal, I am encouraging residents and business owners alike to make a concerted effort to enhance the appearance of their properties. I am writing to ask for the support of the Chelmsford Business Association in this Town wide effort.

One aspect of the Town's effort is a major push to enforce all zoning and general by-laws, but particularly those that impact the appearance of the Town and private properties including signs, unregistered cars, improper lighting, and enclosed dumpsters. Please alert your members that we do intend to aggressively enforce current requirements and to seek new standards. As always, we prefer a more cooperative approach to solving this problem.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas regarding this matter and thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Bernard Lynch
Town Manager

From the Editor

I would like to take this opportunity to draw everyone's attention to the nice new crisp look of our newsletter. I have only heard positive comments but all comments are welcome. I would also like to correct a mistake I made in the last newsletter. I did not give credit to Ed MacKinnon for the wonderful photos. Thank Ed.

I would also in the spirit of new looks and fresh ideas invite anyone in our association to be a guest editor. Write a 250-300 word article or smaller on any subject of interest to you and hopefully to others. Send it off to me at Centretravel1@verizon.net and your pearls of wisdom will be included in our next newsletter. Don't be shy I know many of you have much to share. Have a great Spring!

Town-Wide Litter Cleanup
May 1st, 9am - Noon

Set aside Saturday, May 1st from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for our annual town-wide litter cleanup event. You can help rid the town of the litter that has been thoughtlessly tossed on the ground or accidentally spilled from trash containers. Join friends and neighbors for this important annual tradition. Or, if your company prefers, they can pick a site and clean it up on a different day. Please contact my office at 978-250-5203 if that works better for you. We have a couple of local corporations who have chosen that option in the past.

Immediately afterwards a luncheon will be served at the Chelmsford Senior Center for registered participants. Registered participants will be given a lunch ticket which will also enter them in a drawing for door prizes. We've got gift certificates from many local businesses this year, a bed and breakfast certificate from the Radisson Hotel, certificates from Skip's Restaurant and Bainbridge's Restaurant, as well as many other winning items to be raffled off on that day. So join in the fun; you can "do lunch" that day, even if you choose to clean a site on a different date!

In case of inclement weather, use your best judgment, contact our office at 978-250-5203 if you are unable to participate on a set date. If you change the date, the office will ensure that the bags of litter are picked up at the site you cleaned.

Please call Kathy Bell, Recycling/Waste Coordinator at 978-250-5203 for further information or to register.
